Established over 30 years ago, Little House Animal Sanctuary was the first of its kind in the country — a bold and compassionate response to a system that was failing animals.
We provide a lifelong safe haven for neglected and abused farm animals, offering them comfort, dignity, and the individualized care they deserve. Here, they are no longer commodities — they are cherished residents.
The sanctuary was founded by Jan Taylor after witnessing the heartbreaking reality of livestock markets across the country. Sick, malnourished, and terrified animals were being sold into certain death or a lifetime of suffering. The conditions were impossible to ignore.
Jan’s rescue story quickly gained both local and national press attention — not only because of the emotional impact of saving vulnerable animals, but because it raised urgent questions about animal welfare standards and the laws meant to protect them.
Meetings followed with veterinary officers from the State Veterinary Service, private vets, market managers, Trading Standards officers, and representatives from the farming sector. The evidence presented was undeniable. Improvements were acknowledged as necessary, and change began to take shape.
Today, Little House Animal Sanctuary is home to more than 600 happy residents — sheep, cattle, pigs, ponies and horses, alpacas, ducks, geese, hens, cockerels, turkeys, cats, and dogs. Each one has a story. Each one now has safety.
And the work continues.
To this day, we actively campaign against animal cruelty, striving to influence both legislation and public perception around animal rights. Real change happens when hearts and policies evolve together.
None of this vital work would be possible without compassionate supporters. You can get involved through sponsorships, events, farm visits, and donations — every act of kindness helps sustain this life-saving mission.
If you believe in a world where animals are respected as sentient beings, we warmly invite you to learn more and be part of the journey.
